New Canaan To Hold Town-Wide Events For America250 Celebration

NEW CANAAN, CT — As the nation prepares to commemorate the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence, the town is launching a community-wide celebration to honor this historic milestone.

According to a news release provided the town, the New Canaan 250th Planning Committee is organizing a series of events from June 14 through Nov. 11, 2026, highlighting the town's history, civic leadership and enduring community spirit as part of America's semiquincentennial celebration.

Local organizations, businesses and community groups are invited to participate by hosting events and activities that reflect New Canaan's rich heritage and patriotic tradition, according to the town.

An official America250 New Canaan calendar has been created to feature all participating events throughout the celebration period, offering residents and visitors numerous opportunities to engage in this once-in-a-generation commemoration, according to the town.

The calendar is available on the town website in the blue box located in the upper right corner labeled "America250 New Canaan."

Signature Events

According to the town, two major community-wide events anchor the celebration:

• NC250 Parade – June 27, 2026, at 9:30 a.m. (Rain date: June 28, 2026, 1 p.m.) For more information on the parade, contact Parade Co-Chair Lisa Melland at (203) 966-5016.
• Fourth of July Fireworks Spectacular – July 4, 2026, at Waveny Park. Tickets will go on sale in June. The parade and fireworks celebration are expected to draw residents of all ages and serve as signature moments of the America 250 observance in New Canaan.
