New Canaan Landowners Withdraw Plans to Restore Historical Cemetery

In light of a new "Merritt Village" developments, plans to restore Maple Street Cemetery have stalled.

NEW CANAAN, CT – Landowners said Tuesday that they will withdraw plans to restore a historically important cemetery, Newcanaanite.com reported.

The decision comes in light of plans to create 123 housing units on the Merritt Apartments property, according to Newcanaanite.com. A consultant had since informed the landowners that the cemetery is on generation away from vanishing due to neglect.

Discussion on who actually owns the property and other factors have delayed original plans to rejuvinate the cemetery, Newcanaanite.com reported. The owners said they will support another group’s effort to fix up the cemetery.
