New Canaan Launches New Economic Development/Tourism Committee

The new group will have 11 members, according to First Selectman Kevin Moynihan.

NEW CANAAN, CT — New Canaan is launching a new economic development/tourism committee to help market the town's businesses, attractions and restaurants, according to First Selectman Kevin Moynihan.

The new committee, loosely modeled on similar groups in Greenwich, Ridgefield and other area communities, will work with the Chamber of Commerce to help publicize more than some of the town's more famous attractions, such as the Glass House, Grace Farms and Waveny Park.

"We're recruiting members now," Moynihan told reporters during a recent press briefing. He expects the commission to have 11 members, and said Tucker Murphy, the Chamber's executive director, will be one of the members.

"This will be about more than helping to fill empty storefronts," Moynihan said, adding that he hopes the group is established by the end of November.

Last year, the town launched a promotional campaign, highlighted by a beautifully filmed video, showcasing New Canaan's numerous attributes.
