New Canaan Launches New Online Permitting Service
The new online permitting system will allow residents, contractors and property owners to apply for, track and receive permits with ease.

NEW CANAAN, CT — New Canaan launched a new online permitting system Nov. 1 allowing residents, contractors and property owners to apply for, track and receive permits from the building, health, planning and zoning, inland wetlands and public works engineering departments with greater ease and convenience.
According to a news release provided by the town, the online permitting system, called OpenGov, was licensed by the town to provide an improved customer experience with remote 24/7 operation, a modernized time-saving process and a secure server for paying fees.
All permits from Nov. 1 onward will be done electronically in the new system. The link to the portal is found on the town of New Canaan homepage at www.newcanaan.info/online_services.

Homeowners and other property owners may go into OpenGov and check the records of their property to make sure that required permits are in place for work that has been conducted at their property. This will help avoid problems later as real estate transfers generally require permits to be in place, according to the town.
"The OpenGov online permitting system will modernize Town Hall's permit processing," First Selectman Kevin Moynihan said in a news release, "so that the staff can work more collaboratively and efficiently with full transparency to residents, contractors and property owners."
