New Canaan Likely to Hire Affordable Housing Expert to Avoid Loopholes

The law commonly referred to as 8-30g allows developers to circumvent local zoning laws with affordable housing.

NEW CANAAN, CT—The Board of Selectmen will vote on a money appropriation to hire an expert that could help exempt the town from the affordable housing 8-30g law.

Ridgefield's recently-retired town plan Betty Brosius oversaw more than 10 8-30g applications, according to the New Canaanite.

The town is preparing an application to get a 4-year moratorium on the 8-30g law.

First Selectman Robert Mallozzi said the goal isn't to not allow affordable housing building, but to have control over building projects.
