Former New Canaan Resident Killed In Texas Plane Crash
The New Canaan Country School grad was also the great-granddaughter of former New York City Mayor William Jay Gaynor.
NEW CANAAN, CT — Angela Webb Kensinger, a former New Canaan resident and great-granddaughter of former New York City Mayor William Jay Gaynor, was killed Monday in a plane crash north of San Antonio, Texas, reports Downtown Austin Patch.
Known as Angie, Kensinger and the other five people on the twin-engine Beechcraft BE58 plane died in the 9 a.m. crash, including her husband, Stuart Roben Kensinger, 55, and the pilot, Jeffery Carl Weiss, 65. Also confirmed dead were Mark Damien Scioeaux, 58; Scott Reagan Miller, 55; and Marc Tellepsen, 45.
Angie Kensinger was a graduate of New Canaan Country School, Hotchkiss School and Yale University, and was the long time Head Coach of the Varsity Girls Lacrosse team at St. John's School, a private school in Houston where the Kensingers lived.

Stuart Kensinger was a 1981 graduate of St. John's. According to their 1989 wedding announcement in The New York Times, Stuart Kensinger also graduated from Yale.
In a statement, St. John's Headmaster Mark Desjardins mourned the passing of the Kensingers, who, in addition to other family members, also leave behind a son, Philip, who graduated from St. John's in 2016. Angie, Desjardins told Patch, was "a beautiful person and an inspirational coach whose impact was truly remarkable."

"This is shocking news for our entire community," Desjardins wrote to the school community Monday evening. "At school tomorrow, we will have grief counselors available throughout the day for any student in need of support and guidance.
"Our thoughts and prayers are with all members of the Kensinger family, especially their son, Philip '16, and many individuals within our community who were close with Angie and Stuart.
"There are no words to describe the overwhelming sense of grief that we all feel over this devastating and sudden loss of two very close friends of this community."
In a statement, New Canaan Country School's Head of School Aaron Cooper extended his sympathy to sisters Eliza and Electra. Angie is remembered by the school community as "kind and generous."
The crash occurred in Kerrville, Texas, about 70 miles north of San Antonio and about six miles from the airport, writes CBS News. Weiss, a local businessman and philanthropist, was a veteran pilot with more than 40 years of experience in the air.
