New Canaan Offers Residents Fire Safety Assessments

Fire Marshal Paul Payne is accepting appointments to conduct complimentary fire safety assessments at New Canaan homes.

NEW CANAAN, CT — New Canaan Fire Marshal Paul Payne is accepting appointments to conduct complimentary fire safety assessments at New Canaan homes.

According to a news release provided by the town, this Community Risk Reduction Program for residences is part of the New Canaan Fire Department’s longstanding and continuous commitment to fire prevention.

Fire safety reviews at New Canaan homes include, but are not limited to, escape plans, smoke and carbon monoxide detector locations, placement and use of fire extinguishers, advice on electrical outlets, cords and power strips and information related to mechanical equipment such as heating systems and clothes dryers, town officials said.

The fire marshal will check the homes room-by-room from attic to basement, garage, exterior, and outbuildings as well, town officials said.

The reviews take approximately one hour and are equally helpful for long-time residents, those who have changed residences, and first-time homeowners, town officials said.

Homeowners are invited to call the Fire Marshal’s Office at 203-594-3030 to arrange an appointment, town officials said.
