New Canaan Overcomes Danbury in Nail-Biter 1-0 Victory
New Canaan 2008 Girls Red edges out Danbury for a big win at home

New Canaan edged out their capable Danbury opponents in a nail-biter of a Sunday match, securing a bruising 1-0 victory at home.
New Canaan started the game on their heels, defending against the strong Danbury attack, but as time passed, the girls in white and red gained composure, picked up speed, and fought back with increasing ferocity.
From the sidelines, Coach Rich Hickson directed the girls to hold their positions, fill open space, and work harder than their opponents, and as that advice sunk in, so to did the New Canaan attack take shape.

The deciding moment, though, came late in the first half, when New Canaan’s Jenna Vigano was fouled in the Danbury box. Emma “G” Grzymski took the penalty kick on her behalf, which at first was blocked by the Danbury goalkeeper, but Grzymski sunk the rebound putting in the one and only goal of the game.
Outstanding goalkeeping by Macyn Callahan and Grzymski shut out the Danbury offense, who rarely got a shot off thanks to the unshakeable defensive efforts by Valentina Baldini, Madeleine Peterson, and Emma Prior.
With this win, the New Canaan team ascends to a winning record of 2-1 for this fall season.
