New Canaan Panel To Discuss Charter Revision Ballot Questions

NEW CANAAN, CT — New Canaan will hold a public information session next week to help voters understand the issues related to six questions about proposed changes to the town charter that will be on the Nov. 3 election ballot.

According to the town website, the session will be held Monday at 10 a.m. at the Lapham Community Center, located at 677 South Avenue.

Kathleen Corbet, who served as chair of the Charter Revision Commission, and Town Council member Eric Thunem will serve as a two-person panel leading the presentation and discussion.

According to the town, the charter "outlines the governance structure and procedures for New Canaan's boards, commissions and elected officers: specifically, how responsibilities are distributed, decisions are made, and accountability is enforced."

This year, voters will have a chance to decide which of the six proposed changes to the charter should or should not be made.

The proposed amendments to the charter were developed by the commission after a comprehensive review process that culminated with a final report to the Town Council, according to the town.

The council considered the commission's recommendations and voted to approve six questions to put before the voters, according to the town.

All New Canaan voters are invited to learn more about the commission's final report and the upcoming ballot so they have knowledge about the "Yes / No" questions by Election Day, according to the town.
