New Canaan Police Arrest Waveny Car Break-In Suspect

The 46-year-old Norwalk man is accused of stealing credit cards from cars at the town park.

say they’ve arrested a 46-year-old Norwalk man in connection with three suspected car break-ins at Waveny where credit cards were stolen—including one the man confessed to.

Angel Villafane was charged with three counts of third-degree burglary, three counts of second-degree criminal mischief, fifth-degree larceny, nine counts of credit card theft, eight counts of illegal use of credit card, four counts of receiving illegal goods and one count of second-degree making false statements.

According to New Canaan police Lt. Vincent DeMaio, Villafane confessed to a Jan. 13 break-in and is suspected in two more, on Nov. 21 and Dec. 10 of 2011.

DeMaio said that video surveillance showed Villafane offering up the credit card to motorists pumping gas in Norwalk and at Merritt Parkway stations in exchange for cash.

A warrant obtained by New Canaan police was served after Milford police stopped Villafane at about 5 p.m. on March 15 for a traffic violation, DeMaio said.

He was held on $50,000 bond and scheduled to appear Friday in state Superior Court in Norwalk.
