NEW CANAAN, CT — The New Canaan Police Department announced Thursday the hiring of its newest police officer.

According to a news release provided by the department, Sarina Oliveira is a graduate of Byram Hill High School in Armonk, N.Y., and Norwich University in Northfield, Vt., where she earned a bachelor's degree in criminal justice.

She also graduated from the U.S. Army Sustainment University at Fort Gregg-Adams, Va., according to the department.

Oliveira also proudly serves as a member of the U.S. Army National Guard with Charlie Company 119th DSSB- 2LT, which the department noted was "a reflection of her continued commitment to service both to our nation and now to our community."

According to police, Oliveira successfully endured an intensive testing and selection process that included a written examination, physical agility testing, interview panel, polygraph, psychological evaluation, background investigation, medical testing and police commission interview.

Oliveira will soon attend the Stamford Police Academy, after which she will return to New Canaan and complete a minimum of 400 hours of field training with the department before being certified as a probationary police officer, according to the department.
