NEW CANAAN, CT — The New Canaan Police Department will hire two new officers during a swearing-in ceremony Thursday morning.
Idelissa Lluveres and Jake Somma will be sworn in at 10:30 a.m. in the board room at Town Hall.
In a news release, Police Lt. Jason Ferraro said both candidates participated in the winter 2022 recruitment process for police officers with the department. They were two of over 30 candidates who submitted eligible applications for employment.

According to Ferraro, both candidates successfully endured an intensive testing and selection process, which included a written examination, physical agility testing, interview panel, polygraph, psychological evaluation, background investigation, medical testing and police commission interview.
Lluveres, 34 of Mahopac, N.Y., was most recently employed by the New York City Police Department, where she worked as a patrol officer for seven years and was most recently assigned to their strategic response group.

Lluveres graduated from Aquinas High School in Bronx, N.Y., after which she attained a bachelor's degree from CUNY Baruch College, majoring in corporate communications, Ferraro said.
As a sworn officer with an out-of-state certification, Lluveres will need to take various courses designated by POSTC to attain her Connecticut certification. She will begin her comparative certification training on May 31, the majority of which will take place at the New Canaan Police Department through distance learning, Ferraro said.
The tentative completion of that training will be at the end of June. After completion of that training, Lluveres will undergo approximately eight weeks of field training with the New Canaan Police Department before being assigned solo patrol duties as a probationary police officer, Ferraro said.
Somma, 23, of Norwalk, graduated from Norwalk High School and recently earned his bachelor's degree from the University of Connecticut, where he majored in economics.
He will begin his recruit training on June 3 at the Connecticut Police Academy's 375th training session in Meriden. The tentative graduation date for that class is the week of Dec. 16, Ferraro said.
After completing the academy, Somma will undergo a minimum of 400 hours of field training with the New Canaan Police Department before being certified as a probationary police officer.
