The New Canaan Police Department announced this week the hiring of two new officers.

NEW CANAAN, CT — The New Canaan Police Department announced this week the hiring of two new officers: Jake Somma and Idelissa Lluveres.
In a Facebook post, police said Somma will begin his recruit training Friday at the Connecticut Police Academy's 375th training session in Meriden with a tentative graduation date of Dec. 16.
After completing the academy, Somma will undergo a minimum of 400 hours of field training with the department before being certified as a probationary police officer.

Somma is a graduate of Norwalk High School and recently earned his bachelor's degree from the University of Connecticut, where he majored in economics, according to the department.
Lluveres was most recently employed by the New York City Police Department, where she worked as a patrol officer for seven years and was recently assigned to their strategic response group.

As a sworn officer with an out-of-state certification, Lluveres will need to take various courses designated by POSTC to attain her Connecticut certification, police said.
Lluveres began her comparative certification training this week, the majority of which will take place at the New Canaan Police Department through distance learning, and is scheduled to complete that training in late June.
She will then undergo approximately eight weeks of field training before being assigned solo patrol duties as a probationary police officer, according to the department.
Lluveres graduated from Aquinas High School in Bronx, N.Y., and attained a bachelor's degree from CUNY Baruch College, majoring in corporate communications, police said.
Further information about both new officers can be found on the department's Facebook page.
