New Canaan Public Schools Updates High School Graduation Date

NEW CANAAN, CT — Graduation for New Canaan High School's Class of 2020 will be held on June 15, and the public school district's last day of the 2019-2020 school year will be June 16, the New Canaan Board of Education decided on Thursday.

Taking into account distance learning as a result of the coronavirus (COVID-19) shutdown, the board made the following adjustments to the current year's calendar:

• Friday, May 22: Day off from Distance Learning
• Monday, June 1: Day off from Distance Learning
• Monday, June 8: Day off from Distance Learning
• Friday, June 12: Last day of Distance Learning
• Monday, June 15: NCHS Graduation
• Tuesday, June 16: Last day of the 2019-2020 school year
• Wednesday, June 17: Teacher work day to close out the school year
• Thursday, June 18: Teacher work day to close out the school year

The need for a revised calendar came as result of the statewide shutdown, the
readiness of the New Canaan Public Schools to begin Distance Learning on Friday, March 13 -
24 hours after the closure - and the decision to provide Distance Learning on April 14, 15, and 16 over Spring Break.

"I remain in awe of your work these past months," Schools Superintendent Dr. Bryan Luizzi told schools staff, faculty and administrators on Thursday. "These revisions to the calendar were only possible because of the outstanding effort you've put forth from the very start and the positive spirit you've brought to our collective challenges. ... it recognizes and honors all of us as professionals and as human beings."
