New Canaan Resident Heads Growing Animal Health Company: Report

Bactana Corp. is developing probiotics for livestock as an alternative to hormones.

NEW CANAAN, CT — New Canaan resident John Kallasy, an entrepreneur with extensive experience in the animal health industry, is the CEO of Bactana Corp. which is entering the UConn Technology Incubation Program in Farmington to develop probiotics for livestock, reports the Stamford Advocate.

Scientists from Cornell University's College of Veterinary Medicine created what are referred to as "super-probiotics" that contain bacteria strains which can be used in livestock in place of hormones.

The young company recently received $400,000 from the Connecticut Innovations venture fund to help with development of the development of the probiotics.
