New Canaan Resident Is Named Shakespeare on the Sound Artistic Director

The new director has been with the theater troupe for five years and served as its director of education.

New Canaan resident Claire Kelly has been appointed the artistic director Shakespeare on the Sound (SOS), the theater troupe announced Thursday.

For the past five years, Kelly has been as the SOS Artistic Associate and Director of Education. She has directed two main stage shows with the company, As You Like It in 2013 and last year’s production, The Two Gentlemen Of Verona.

Kelly co-created and directed Shakespeare on the Sound’s K-5 touring production Let’s Play Shakespeare!, and directed their anti-bullying program Speaking Daggers. Kelly also has assembled and lead the young adult Apprentice program for the past three years.

She has worked at the Guthrie Theater, The Shakespeare Theater of New Jersey, the Ordway Music Theater, and the George Street Playhouse, among others. Kelly was the Director of Drama at Proctor Academy in New Hampshire.

She holds a Masters of Arts degree from New York University in Educational Theater.

Kelly resides in New Canaan. She has two children, a dog named Ophelia, and a tortoise named Romeo.
