New Canaan’s Avery Russey will take the stage in Boston this month in Steven Dietz’s The Nina Variations, running August 27–30, 2026, at the Boston Center for the Arts Plaza Theatre.

Russey got her start performing in New Canaan, appearing in New Canaan High School productions including The Little Mermaid, The Addams Family, and 9 to 5. She went on to earn a BFA in Acting from Boston University, where her credits included Islander, Julius Caesar, and Sunday in the Park with George. She also studied classical acting and Shakespeare at the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art (LAMDA).

In The Nina Variations, Russey stars opposite Leo Flora in the play’s two roles. Inspired by Anton Chekhov’s The Seagull, the story follows Nina and Treplev through 43 different versions of a final encounter, exploring love, ambition, memory, regret, and the many ways two people struggle to say goodbye.
