NEW CANAAN, CT — The first day of school in New Canaan is August 29 — and whether you and the kids are looking forward to the new school year or are dreading the end of summer, you'll want to mark the date on your calendar ASAP. The New Canaan School District has released its 2019-2020 calendar for public schools.

The calendar includes important dates such as winter and spring vacations, religious holidays, federal holidays, early dismissals and parent-teacher conferences.

November 5 Professional Learning Staff - No School for students (Election Day)

November 27 Half Day for Staff & Students

November 28 & 29 Thanksgiving Holiday, no school

December 3-6 Parent conference days (half day grades K-5)

December 23-31 Holiday Recess, no school

February 17-21 President's Day/February Vacation, no school

April 10-17 Spring Break (includes Good Friday), no school*

*April vacation may be shortened if there are more than 2 snow days

June 17 Last Day of School; Half Day for Staff & Students

Note: The last day of school is tentatively June 17th, but if additional days are required for emergency/snow closures, they could be added on June 18, 19 or beyond.

"Students, parents and staff should be aware that the April vacation may be shortened if there are more than 2 snow days," school officials said in a statement. "The school year may also be extended to as late as June 30 in the event of unanticipated closures due to weather or other factors."
