New Canaan Selectmen To Review FY2027 Budget, Consider Purchases During Upcoming Meeting

NEW CANAAN, CT — The New Canaan Board of Selectmen is scheduled to take an early look at the town's fiscal year 2027 budget when it meets Tuesday morning, with spending plans for public safety, health services and other departments topping the agenda.

The regular meeting is set for Jan. 20 at 8:30 a.m. in the Town Hall meeting room and will be held in a hybrid format, allowing for both in-person and virtual participation.

The board is expected to review and discuss proposed budgets for fiscal year 2027, including funding requests for Health and Human Services, emergency medical services, the police and fire departments and the New Canaan Library, according to the meeting agenda.

The item is listed as a discussion, with no final budget action specified on the agenda.

The board is also scheduled to consider a Parks and Recreation Department request to purchase 11 automated external defibrillators for town facilities. The agenda calls for possible approval of a contract with Chris Gardner and Associates LLC for the equipment at a cost of $25,121, plus a $1,250 contingency, for an estimated total cost of $26,371.

Several other spending items appear on the agenda, including approval of purchase orders for the New Canaan Museum and Historical Society, a listed total of $25,000, and the Day Care Center of New Canaan, a listed total of $32,000.

Personnel matters include a request from the Human Resources Department to hire Kevin O'Connor as parking authority manager, effective Feb. 9, 2026, and a proposed appointment moving Kristina Larson from alternate to regular member of the Planning and Zoning Commission for a term ending Dec. 1, 2026.

Public comment is listed early on the agenda, allowing residents to address items scheduled for review or possible vote. Written comments may also be submitted to the board electronically.
