New Canaan YMCA Fall Activity Registration Begins August 13

Registration for fall activities at the New Canaan YMCA begins on Monday, August 13 at 9:00 am. Classes begin September 5.

Registration for the New Canaan YMCA’s fall activities begins on Monday, August 13 at 9:00 am. The 12-week session begins Wednesday, September 5 and runs through Saturday, December 1.

Registration for current members is available online and at the front desk. Financial assistance is available through gifts made to the Y’s Annual Support Campaign. Financial assistance applications and instructions may be found online at www.newcanaanymca.org/membership.

The Y offers a wide variety of aquatics lessons for children ages 6 months and older, and for all experience levels. Youth aquatics activities include parent-child classes, preschool classes, private one-on-one lessons, and more. Adult water activities are also available this fall. These include adult swim lessons for those with a range of swimming abilities, Arthritis Exercise, and Group Exercise classes like Aquamates and Hydrofit. The New Canaan YMCA Caimans Swim Team, Aquianas Synchronized Swim Team, and Whirlwind Diving Team will also continue to practice and compete this fall.

Children have plenty of opportunities to stay busy and active this fall with Youth Music Classes for parents and children, ages 12-36 months old. This program focuses on using interactive songs, movements, and props to develop fine motor skills, language skills, and more. Our Bouncing Bears & Beyond, and Movement Education program provides children 12 months old through 9th grade the opportunity to enjoy a variety of programs designed to develop intellectually, emotionally, socially, and physically. Programs like Dance Jam Gymnastics, and Tap & Tumble give kids the opportunity to combine aerobic exercise through dance, with structured gymnastics development.

This fall, the Y will be offering Youth Sports programs like Fencing, Archery, Tennis, Golf, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, Basketball, and more. Youth Recreational programs are also provided, including Middle School Night, CHEM Club, Cooking Community, and Adventure Club, which are available to those in grades 5 through 8. The sports, wellness, and recreational programs are a great way for children and teens to stay active and engaged this fall. The YSN Special Needs program also offers specialized social-recreational and wellness programs for those with special needs. Recreational programs that will be offered this fall include YSN Y Tunes, YSN Community Helpers, YSN Healthy Living Swim, and YSN Young Adult Healthy Living, along with many more!

Furthermore, the Y provides a number of Group Exercise programs designed to meet the needs of all members. With over 80 classes available per week, members have the opportunity to improve their overall fitness in a fun and supportive group setting. The Y ForeverWell program offers active, older adults the opportunity to stay fit and socialize. Activities include fitness classes like Gentle Yoga, Chair Fitness, Tai Chi, and others, along with recreational and social activities like coffee happy hours, a pop-up lunch series, games, and more.

The New Canaan YMCA continues to provide Livestrong at the YMCA, a research-based physical activity and well-being program designed to help adult cancer survivors reclaim their total health. The program is offered in two sessions this fall, and participants will work with Y staff trained in supportive cancer care. Participants work to build strength, increase flexibility and endurance, and improve confidence and self-esteem. Participants will have full access to the Y over the duration of the 12 week program.
