New Canaanite Breaks 4-Minute Mile Barrier

Yale University junior James Randon completed the amazing feat. Only a few college athletes break the barrier per year.

New Canaan native James Randon shaved enough time off his personal best to break through the four-minute mile barrier.

Randon achieved a time of 3:58:85 in the final day of competition at the IC4A Championships, according to Yale Sports Publicity. He is a junior at Yale University.

"The four-minute barrier has been something I've been hoping to break," Randon said. "I couldn't have been happier with my final race of the season."

He is the first Yale athlete to break the four-minute barrier on an indoor track.

Randon's previous best attempt was 4:00:53, which was the first time he broke a Yale record this season.
