New Canaan's Silver Hill Hospital Adds New Psychiatrist

She is Board Certified in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry and in General Psychiatry.

From Silver Hill Hospital: Silver Hill Hospital, a nationally recognized psychiatric hospital, is pleased to welcome Elizabeth Ortiz-Schwartz, M.D., DFAPA to their team.

Dr. Elizabeth Ortiz-Schwartz is the new psychiatrist for the Adolescent Transitional Living Program at Silver Hill Hospital. She is Board Certified in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry and in General Psychiatry. Dr. Ortiz-Schwartz is also a member of the American Psychiatric Association where she has earned the status of distinguished fellow . President and Medical Director, John Santopietro, M.D. remarks, “We are excited to have Dr. Ortiz-Schwartz join our team at Silver Hill. She is accomplished, highly skilled and is passionate about the care of children and adolescents and their families.”

Dr. Ortiz-Schwartz, who grew up in the Dominican Republic, studied at the Medical School of the Universidad Central del Este and is bi-lingual. She completed her residency in Psychiatry as well as her Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Fellowship at the New York Medical College where she became Chief Resident, Chief Fellow and then went on to become Assistant Professor of Psychiatry as well as Training Director for the Child and Adolescent Psychiatry program. She has held multiple clinical leadership roles and comes most recently from the Child Guidance Center of Southern Ct (serving Darien, Greenwich, New Canaan, and Stamford) where she was Medical Director.

The Center for Adolescents at Silver Hill Hospital offers treatment for teens, ages 13-17, who may be struggling with mood disorders, anxiety disorders as well as co-occurring self-harming behaviors, eating disorders or substance use disorders. All patients are under the care of highly motivated and specially trained professional staff committed to enhancing the mental health of teens and families in crisis. All treatment is provided in a warm, supportive, home-like atmosphere designed to promote healing and recovery.

Silver Hill Hospital is an 87 year old, not-for-profit psychiatric hospital with acute crisis stabilization and longer-term Transitional Living Programs. It admits 3,000 adolescents and adults annually for psychiatric disorders that include addiction, pain with co-occurring addiction, depression, bipolar disorder, eating disorders, schizophrenia and Silver Hill also specializes co-occurring diagnosis and treatment.
