New Charges For Suspect In Thwarted Drowning Attack In New Canaan
The suspect, a Norwalk resident, is accused of attacking a woman and trying to drown her in a river off Valley Road in New Canaan.

NEW CANAAN, CT — The Norwalk man accused of attacking a woman and trying to drown her in a river off Valley Road faces additional charges, New Canaan police said.
Mynor Romeo Alvarado-Canahui, 31, of Woodward Avenue, was charged Wednesday with criminal attempt at first-degree sexual assault and criminal attempt at first-degree aggravated sexual assault in connection with the May 25 attack. Police said he is being held on bail of more than $1 million, and is next scheduled to appear in Stamford Superior Court on Dec. 8.
According to police, Alvarado-Canahui struck the victim with his car as she walked along Valley Road and tried to force her into the back seat. Unable to get her into his car, he dragged her down an embankment and tried to drown her in the river, police said.

Witnesses saw him holding the woman's head under water and shouted at him, which prompted him to stop, police said.
Alvarado-Canahui was originally charged with criminal attempted murder, first-degree kidnapping and first-degree assault. Police did not say how the new charges fit into the case.
