New Children's Playground Planned For New Canaan's Mead Park
"The reconstruction of the playground wouldn't be possible without the support of the community and local businesses."

NEW CANAAN, CT — From Eversource: Monica Capela is passionate about creating a better future for the kids and families in her New Canaan community. That’s why she’s helping with a massive fundraising project to revamp Mead Park Playground. With the town behind them, the nonprofit Friends of Mead Park Playground has been working to raise funds to upgrade the outdated playground.
Since so many of the structures in the park are wood, they’re chipping away from wear and tear—making it unsafe for children to play. So, they’re planning to replace the old equipment with vibrant-colored structures, including slides, ladders, swings, a jungle gym and more. They’ll also be installing a flat, smooth, rubber surface in the park that will make it safer for children to play on instead of pavement or gravel – and the baseball fields in the back of the park, are also getting a makeover. Pieces of equipment were recently removed from the playground this month.
“This is important work because so many children and their families use this park every day,” said Capela, a member of the Friends of Mead Park Playground.

“This has been a huge investment on Eversource’s part,” said Capela. “And it’s all to benefit our community for many years to come”
The group’s goal is to remove all the old equipment in the next few weeks and have the project completed in the spring. The playground will be accessible to children regardless of their ability. To learn more about the project, visit www.Facebook.com/MeadPlayground.
