New Public Paddle Tennis Court Opens In New Canaan

The court is the fifth one at Waveny Park.

NEW CANAAN, CT — The fifth paddle court at Waveny Park in New Canaan is now playable, following a several-month long process, according to officials.

The project took the combined efforts of several town organizations and individuals to secure approvals and funding. Paddle tennis' popularity has continued to grow in New Canaan in recent years, resulting in a significant increase in the demand for the paddle courts at Waveny, officials said.

For example, during the peak season from September through March, there are often times when all the courts are booked, so with the addition of the fifth court, more people will be able to play.

"The paddle community appreciates the efforts of everyone who was involved in this process – from the Recreation Department, The New Canaan Community Foundation, the Department of Public Works, the heads of the various leagues around town who led the fundraising charge, to all of those who gave – this was the combined effort of many people," said Tonya Russo, of the New Canaan Women’s League, in a statement at the official ribbon-cutting on Feb. 1.
