NY Woman Accused Of Trying To Bite New Canaan Police Officers

The suspect "appeared to be in distress" during the September incident, according to police.

NEW CANAAN, CT — A 26-year-old Queens, NY woman was arrested on a warrant by New Canaan police on Monday in connection with a September incident in which police said she tried to bite officers who were checking on her and her children.

Kaela A. Augustine was charged with a host of offenses in connection with the Sept. 24 incident on Park Street, including interfering with an officer, second-degree breach of piece, two counts of risk of injury to a minor and possession of less than a half-ounce of cannabis.

The incident began when officers were called to Park Street near Pine Street on a report of a woman in a vehicle who "appeared to be in distress," police said. Two children were in the vehicle with her.

"Augustine was incoherent and uncooperative when officers attempted to determine why she was upset and attempted to bite the officers who were in close proximity of her," wrote New Canaan police in a statement. "Augustine was later transported to Norwalk Hospital for an evaluation."

New Canaan police obtained a warrant for Augustine's arrest, and she surrendered to police on Monday. In addition to the above charges, she also was charged with operating a motor vehicle with a license, operating a motor vehicle without insurance and improper use of a license plate.

She was released on a promise to appear in Norwalk Superior Court on Dec. 12.
