The following obituary of Adeline Wilwers Seltzer, of New Canaan, is from Hoyt Funeral Home:
Adeline Wilwers Seltzer died peacefully in her home in New Canaan on Friday, March 23rd. Adeline was born in Luxembourg in 1916. She was the daughter of the late Paul and Josephine Hames Wilwers. She married Richard Seltzer whom she met during WW2 while he was campaigning through Luxembourg with the 10th armored division, 3rd army under General Patton. After VE Day, she joined her husband in Germany where he commanded an army unit for the office of the chief engineer. Adeline obtained a post with the Judge Advocate as interpreter at General Courts Martial translating from English into German, French and Italian.
Adeline immigrated to the USA as a war bride in November 1947. She had 2 children, Nadine Seltzer who lived with her and Carole Anne Collins who lives with her husband, William J. Collins in York, Pennsylvania. She had 1 granddaughter, Elizabeth Anne Collins who also resides in York, Pa. Adeline’s husband, Richard, died suddenly in December 2013. They were residents of New Canaan since 1978. Adeline also has a grand nephew, Claude Wilwers who resides in Luxembourg and was a first time visitor to New Canaan in May, 2017.
Adeline was a prolific amateur artist and has filled her home with oil paintings admired by all her family and friends. She displayed her work in various establishments including New Canaan Bank and had a formal showing at the Carriage Barn Arts Center in Waveny in September 1985. She also entered her work at the annual member’s show at various times over the years.

A Mass of Christian burial took place on Thursday, April 5th at St. Aloysius Church in New Canaan, which was followed by burial at St. John’s cemetery in Norwalk.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the New Canaan Ambulance Corps.
