Obituary: Peggy Murphy, 84, Of New Canaan
Peggy worked as a teachers' aid in the Wilton school district, focusing on elementary school reading and assisting those with special needs.

Peggy Murphy, 84, of New Canaan, Connecticut, passed away after a long illness on April 14, 2022.
Peggy was born in her family’s home in Pelham, NY, the daughter of Arthur and Consuela Blank. She grew up in Pelham with her six brothers and sisters. She stayed close with all of them her entire life. She was an active child and she broke her arm falling from a tree in Prospect Park across the street from their home.

Peggy was on the cheerleading squad at Pelham High School, where her future husband, Tony Murphy, played football. They did not date in high school as far as her children know.
Peggy attended college at Georgian Court College, a Roman Catholic university in Lakewood, NJ and then moved to Washington, DC, to teach second graders. In 1964 Tony’s work brought him back East and he and Peggy reconnected, married, and moved to an apartment in White Plains, NY. Their first two sons, Bill and Tom, were born while they lived in White Plains and then they moved to a house in Mount Kisco near the Saw Mill Parkway, where Kevin was born. Tony’s career took them to Glen Ellen, IL, and then finally to Wilton, CT, where they lived for over thirty years.

Peggy put teaching on hold to raise her boys and run the household. She was always active in the church and with her sons’ schools and activities. When she felt the boys were old enough, Peggy returned to education, as a teachers' aid in the Wilton school district focusing on elementary school reading and assisting those with special needs. Peggy loved teaching children until she finally retired at 78.
Peggy is survived by her three sons, Bill of Onancock, VA, Tom of Darien, CT, and Kevin of Huntington Beach, CA, her three daughters-in-law, Kendra, Sophie, and Genevieve, and her 13 grandchildren, whom she adored. She also leaves behind her brother, Arthur, and her two sisters, Lola and Paula, and many many nieces and nephews, who were all a large part of her life.
The Funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, April 23 at St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church in Norwalk, CT. Peggy will be laid to rest in a private ceremony at St Mary’s Cemetery on North Street in Norfolk, CT following the Mass.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to either Catholic Charities of Fairfield Country or St Mary’s Roman Catholic Church of Norwalk.
