Police: 50 to 60 Kids at Drinking Party Hosted by New Canaan 14-Year-Old
The party on Carter Street took place Friday, Nov. 14. The host was issued a Juvenile Court summons.

A 14-year-old girl was charged after New Canaan police broke up a teenage drinking party at her Carter Street home. According to police, the girl’s mother said she had no idea 50 to 60 kids were in her home.
New Canaan police gave this account (an accusation not proven in court) of the incident and investigation:
At 8:54 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 14, a resident in the neighborhood told police that a teenage drinking party seemed to be in progress at a home on Carter Street. Teenagers walking on the street carrying alcohol was the main clue.

When police arrived at the house, many teenagers rushed off into the woods. Police estimated that 50 to 60 teenagers were there.
Officers smelled burnt marijuana, but didn’t find any.

Officers did find eight 30-pack cartons of beer on the scene (some of the beer was removed from them, some not) and several empty bottles of wine.
And one 14-year-old girl who lived there and was the host. She told police she had only invited several friends to her house, but many more ended up coming, uninvited.
The girl’s mother was also in the house. She said she was upstairs on the telephone and did not hear the 50 to 60 teenagers in the place. The mother was not charged with a crime.
The daughter was charged with permitting minors to possess alcohol and with failing to halt the possession of alcohol by minors. She was issued a summons to appear Dec. 9 in Juvenile Court in Stamford.
None of the partygoers were detained by police.
