Police Cracking Down On Distracted Driving In New Canaan
New Canaan police will be participating in the 2026 Distracted Driving Grant with additional enforcement in town scheduled for these dates.

NEW CANAAN, CT — The New Canaan Police Department will be participating in the 2026 Distracted Driving Grant throughout the month of April, police announced Monday.
In a news release provided by the department, Police Lt. Marc DeFelice said the dates of additional enforcement are April 1-30, 2026.
In partnership with state and local law enforcement, and the U.S. Department of Transportation's National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the campaign will step up enforcement efforts to enforce distracted-driving laws, according to DeFelice.

"Distracted driving is causing crashes, injuries and deaths across Connecticut," DeFelice wrote in a news release. "Please keep your eyes on the road."
According to the department, distracted driving crashes are preventable and driving should be a person's number one priority behind the wheel.

"New Canaan Police Department urges motorists to put their phone down when they get behind the wheel," DeFelice said.
