Police: New Canaan Couple's Brawl Downtown Features Kicks, Keg, Swollen Eye
According to police: He said he put an empty keg between them to protect himself, but she said he dropped it or threw it on her knee.

A fight between a boyfriend and girlfriend behind Chef Luis Restaurant in downtown New Canaan resulted in a swollen eye for the girlfriend and charges for both of them, police said.
New Canaan police gave this account (an accusation not proven in court) of the incident:
At 1:24 a.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 2, police were called to the scene, behind the restaurant at 129 Elm St. They found the girlfriend, Concepcion Perez, 27, with a swollen left eye. She said her boyfriend, Carlos Lopez, 40, had struck her in a fight.

A verbal argument had turned physical, she said, when he threw her to the ground and she kicked him before getting up.
She said he hit her leg with an empty beer keg by dropping it on her and striking her knee. He said he put the keg there to protect himself. Police gave no explanation for the swollen eye.

Both boyfriend and girlfriend were charged: Lopez, of 107 River St., was charged with third-degree assault and disorderly conduct; Perez was charged with disorderly conduct. Each was released on a promise to appear the next morning, Sept. 2, in state Superior Court in Norwalk.
