Police: New Canaan Man Forged Checks
Several checks were stolen, forged and cashed, police said.

A New Canaan man was arrested and charged with stealing and forging checks.
Justin Formentin, 22, of New Canaan turned himself into police on August 8 on two active warrants.
Reported victims said that they let a woman stay with them in April, police said. They noticed checks and cash were missing. She claimed she didn’t take them.

A number of checks were forged and cashed, according to police.
Formentin’s name was signed on the back of checks along with another suspect. A total of $530 was taken.

He was charged with five counts of third-degree forgery and sixth-degree larceny for one warrant and six counts of third-degree forgery, fifth-degree larceny and conspiracy in another warrant.
The investigation remains active.
