As the summer winds down and families prepare for the start of school, police have provided some back to school safety tips for residents.

NEW CANAAN, CT — As the summer season winds down and families prepare for the start of school this month, police have provided some safety tips for New Canaan residents to keep in mind during the back to school season.

In a Facebook post, police provided the following back to school safety tips for New Canaan residents:

• Watch for children.
• Obey school zone speed limits.
• Do not pass a bus loading or unloading children.
• Never pass vehicles stopped at crosswalks.
• Pay attention to school crossing guards.
• Eliminate distractions.
• Use designated student drop-off and pick-up zones.

Police also provided a video in which Connecticut police officers urged residents to drive safely as the new school season begins. The video can be viewed here.

"Let's make the transition into the 2023 school year a safe one," polices said on Facebook. "Do your part to keep our community and its students safe."
