Fred Campagna, a senior meteorologist at WTNH-TV since 2015, was recently let go from the station, he announced in a video over the weekend on his Facebook and Twitter pages (see below).
"I have some news to share with you, and it's probably going to come as a bit of a surprise, but News 8 has decided to move in a different direction as far as their weather team is concerned," said Campagna. "And before any of us get all too upset about that, I want you to know that I really loved my time at News 8."
In the brief video, Campagna thanked viewers, the station and his co-workers for the experience of working at News 8, and said that as for his future, he is "working on a few things." He hopes to make an announcement about that in the near future.

The news certainly appeared to take viewers by surprise, many of whom flooded the comments section on his Facebook page, and in some cases turning their ire toward the station or other News 8 meteorologists. Campagna was quick to try to steer the conversation back into a positive direction.
"Meteorologists generally have thick skin (how could we not???), but let's try to keep it positive on [sic] and move forward. That's what I'm doing," he wrote.

Here's a quick video I posted to Facebook explaining why you have not seen me on News8 recently. A big THANK YOU to all the great friends that I've made in Connecticut over the past few years! pic.twitter.com/1PQHCB7gDg
