The town has released details regarding registration, voting and absentee ballots ahead of Primary Election Day in Connecticut.

NEW CANAAN, CT — The town has released details regarding registration, voting and absentee ballots ahead of Primary Election Day in Connecticut next month.
According to the town website, Primary Election Day for Democrats and Republicans in Connecticut is Aug. 11, 2026.
Polls will be open in New Canaan from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m., according to the town.

New Canaan voters must vote at their assigned polling place, which is either East Elementary School, Saxe Middle School or New Canaan High School, according to the town.
Residents who are already registered to vote may confirm their registration and polling place through the Office of the Secretary of the State website.

Unaffiliated registered voters are not permitted to participate in Connecticut’s Primary elections.

EARLY VOTING
The Aug. 11, 2026 primary will be preceded by seven days of early voting, which allows for in-person voting at New Canaan Town Hall from Aug. 3 through Aug. 9.
The early voting hours are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., except for Aug. 4 and Aug. 6 when the hours are 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.

VOTER REGISTRATION DEADLINES
Voters who do not belong to a political party (unaffiliated voters) and plan to vote on Aug. 11 primary day must enroll in either the Democratic Party or the Republican Party by noon on Aug. 10, the day before the primary.
Unaffiliated voters who wish to vote during the primary’s early voting period must register with either the Democratic Party or the Republican Party by noon on the day before they plan to vote early.
Party affiliation changes can be made online at voterregistration.ct.gov, by mail or in person at the Registrar of Voters office, 77 Main Street, first floor from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Monday-Thursday or 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on Fridays, however the deadline for changing party affiliation for voting in the Aug. 11 primary has passed.
Last Opportunity
The last opportunity for registering to vote in person with the Registrar of Voters or the town clerk for the Aug. 11 primary is Aug. 10 between 9 a.m. and noon. Applications from active military, persons living outside the country or those turning 18 years of age or attaining citizenship on Aug. 10 may be received up until 5 p.m. on Aug. 10.
