Reality TV Stars To Attend Ribbon Cutting Event In New Canaan

Stars from "The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills" and "Million Dollar Listing Los Angeles" are expected to attend an event in New Canaan.

NEW CANAAN, CT — Two reality television stars are expected to attend a ribbon cutting event at a real estate agency's new location in New Canaan later this month.

Cliff Smith, managing partner of The Agency's New Canaan location, revealed during the Police Commission's July 26 meeting company founder Mauricio Umansky and his wife, Kyle Richards, will attend the event on Aug. 31.

Umansky has appeared on the Bravo reality series "Million Dollar Listing Los Angeles." Richards is a main cast member on Bravo's "The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills," on which Umansky has also appeared. She has also appeared in other TV shows and films, including the original "Halloween."

Smith requested the block of South Avenue between Elm Street and Morse Court be closed from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. for the grand opening event, which he said would take place from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. The Agency is located at 6 South Avenue.

"We're new to town," Smith said during the meeting. "We've been doing business as realtors in town for a little while, but we just purchased The Agency and brought it to South Ave, [at] the corner of South and Elm, and we've just been so happy with the community's acceptance of us and it's been really going well."

Smith said a "good amount of people" are expected to attend the event, including local business owners and First Selectman Kevin Moynihan, who is expected to cut the ribbon.

Unanski and Richards will travel from Beverly Hills, Calif., for the event, and camera crews for Bravo and Netflix will also be present, Smith said.

"Wouldn't expect you to know this," Smith said, "but [Unanski] is on 'Million Dollar Listing.' His wife is Kyle Richards, she's on "Beverly Hills Housewives', she's going to be coming. So there's going to be a good amount of camera crews from Bravo TV, Netflix, and we would just like to see if we could shut down that one section just to have a great, fun event, bring awareness to the community...I think it will just be a very controlled, fun event."

After a short discussion with Deputy Chief John Difederico regarding logistics, Commission Chairman Paul Foley asked Smith if closing the road at 3 p.m. or 4 p.m., ahead of the event's start, would be preferable. Smith said either would work.

"We're not going to be pushing the limits," Smith said. "Things will definitely start at 5 [p.m.] and run till 8 [p.m.], and then we're going to close down at 8 [p.m.] and we'll move it elsewhere. Whatever you guys can accommodate."

Foley suggested 4 p.m., and Difederico agreed the timing should work.

"I would just recommend hiring probably one officer to help manage the crowd and any issues that could happen there," Difederico said.

Smith's request was unanimously approved by the commission, however Foley asked him to coordinate with Difederico to hire a couple of officers to handle traffic and crowds during the event.

"Welcome to town," Foley said to Smith. "I wish you a lot of success."
