Referendum Pursued for Saxe Project

A resident is taking the first steps needed to pursue a possible referendum on the planned expansion and renovation project.

NEW CANAAN, CT-- Former first selectman petitioning candidate Michael Nowacki is in the process of gathering signatures for the first step in getting a referendum on the approved $18.6 million Saxe Middle School expansion and renovation project.

Nowacki told the New Canaanite he has 41 out of 50 needed signatures to file a notice of intent to petition for a referendum.

The next step would be to get signatures from five percent of the electorate within 30 days of the notice of appropriation, which was Dec. 3. That amounts to more than 600 signatures.

Nowacki said he is pursuing the referendum because not all the proper information was given to a company that did a report on enrollment projections.
