Residential Burglaries Reported At Homes Recently For Sale In New Canaan: Police
Police said two residential burglaries were recently reported in town in which forced entry was made through a broken glass door or window.

NEW CANAAN, CT — Two residential burglaries were reported last week at homes in New Canaan by thieves who may be targeting homes in town recently listed for sale, according to police.
In a Facebook post over the weekend, police said two residential burglaries were reported in town between Jan. 19 and 23, during which forced entry was made through a broken glass door or window, which the department noted "will not trigger an alarm unless glass break detection is active."
According to police, ladders are commonly used in these types of residential burglaries to gain access to the second floor of the home, allowing burglars to target bedrooms and closets.

The department also noted residents have not been home at the time of these break-ins, which typically occur when a home is unoccupied.
Police said there was "concern over many residences being recently for sale or having been advertised online previously, which could cause them to be a target."

According to police, there are often pictures, videos and floor plans of homes available online that are accessible by anyone from the public, "which allows someone to gain intimate knowledge of the residence and surrounding area."
Police said residents are encouraged to have information and pictures of their homes taken down from the internet when possible, such as removing old "for sale" pictures or requesting their home be blurred from Google Maps.
"We are continuing to investigate these burglaries," police wrote on Facebook, "and request that all suspicious activity, to include cars and people, be reported so we can note any incidents that could potentially be related."
Last summer, police warned New Canaan residents of burglars using ladders to gain access to homes in town.
In December, police said the department investigated 27 burglaries in New Canaan throughout 2025, including two that were reported over the same week in December.
