School Surveillance Camera Access Deal Reached In New Canaan

New Canaan Public Schools and the town's police department have reached a security agreement.

NEW CANAAN, CT — New Canaan Public Schools and the local police department have reached a deal to allow cops certain access to surveillance cameras in the town's five public schools, reports the New Canaan News.

Under the agreement, the police department will have access to interior cameras when a 911 call is made, or if the department is contacted by the Superintendent of Schools or a building's principal.

The department previously had access to external cameras, which it will still have. Police officials said the department is not using the access to "monitor" students and their actions, but to provide security when needed.
