Silvermine Hosts Open Art Studio + Faculty Exhibition
A free day of mini workshops also will be held at the facility on Sept. 8.
From Silvermine School of Art: On Sat., Sept. 8, the Silvermine School of Art will host a free day of mini workshops and demonstrations followed by an opening reception for the annual Faculty Exhibition. All ages and levels are invited to experience a full day of art at one of the oldest artist communities in the U.S. The Open Art Studio will take place on Sat., Sept. 8 from 9:30am to 3:30pm, and the opening reception for the Faculty Show will follow at 4:00pm in the Silvermine Galleries.
The all-day Open Art Studio begins at 9:30am. Participants can meet each other over coffee and light breakfast before the sessions begin at 10am. The Silvermine faculty will be on hand to give explanations and demonstrations of techniques in various media, many of which are not ordinarily available at otherart schools. Try out a new technique or medium, learn a new discipline, join an in-depth workshop, or observe some of the many demonstrations going on throughout the day. In addition to traditional classes on Painting, Sculpture, Photography, and Printmaking, new classes this Fall include Felting, Glass Bead Working, Floral Design, and—for children—Bubble Painting. Silvermine’s School of Art was recently honored by Moffly Media for Best Art Classes. Meet and talk with Silvermine’s distinguished faculty and join in the opening reception for the Annual Faculty Exhibition in the Silvermine Galleries, which begins at 4pm. The Exhibition runs through Oct. 7.
The Open Art Studio on Sept. 8 is a great way to explore a passion or to sample a subject you may want to pursue later. It is also a great way to meet other artists and join in the vibrant life of the artist community at Silvermine. Registration for Fall courses is ongoing. Visit silvermineart.org or call the School of Art office 203.966.6668, ext. 2 for help with registration.
