Some Worry Merritt Village Proposal Could Go 8-30g if Not Approved
A town attorney advised Planning and Zoning Commission that refiling could be a possibility if the current proposal isn't approved.

NEW CANAAN, CT—Planning and Zoning Commission members discussed the controversial Merritt Village housing proposal for the first time since a public hearing was held.
Planning and Zoning Chairman John Goodwin said that for the 3.3-acre lot around 85 to 95 housing units would be equivalent to the most dense development in town, according to the New Canaanite. The proposal calls for 116 units.
Goodwin added that he thinks there won't be an influx of families in the development that would overwhelm the school system and that adding more residents to town could benefit local shops.

P&Z has until around Dec. 8 to make a decision on the proposal. Some worry that the developer would refile the plan under the 8-30g affordable housing statute, which could circumvent some local zoning laws.
