St. Luke’s Chosen to Present "The Wolves"

Pulitzer Prize-nominated play focuses on the inner workings of a girls soccer team.

The St. Luke's Theatre Company is proud to be one of only three high schools in the country producing Sarah DeLappe's Pulitzer Prize-nominated play The Wolves, about a girls soccer team. St. Luke’s Director of Theatre Arts Jason Peck said, “The scenes take place during warmups, where there are frank and fluid conversations about the characters’ everyday lives. Through the girls’ discussions about themselves, current events, boys, parents, sports, and the world, we get a glimpse into their personal growth and how to stake out one’s individuality within a team environment.”

The playwright DeLappe shared in an interview when the play was first presented, “I wanted to see a portrait of teenage girls as human beings—as complicated, nuanced, very idiosyncratic people who weren’t just girlfriends or sex objects or manic pixie dream girls but who were athletes and daughters and students and scholars and people who were trying actively to figure out who they were in this changing world around them.”

The Wolves will be performed at St. Luke’s School Black Box Theatre (377 N. Wilton Road, New Canaan) on Saturday, January 5 at 3:00pm and 7:00pm and Sunday, January 6 at 3:00pm. Following the Saturday evening performance, there will be a panel discussion moderated by The Fund for Women and Girls and LiveGirl.
