St. Luke’s Debate Team Takes Winning Trophy at State Finals

St. Luke’s Debate Team once again showed its strength at the recent Debate Association State Finals. The team of Marco Volpitta '20 and Amelie Warneryd '20 took home the Connecticut State trophy after winning the championship round. The debate took place at the Joel Barlow High School in Redding with 30 schools and 178 participants in attendance.
There are nine CT Debate Association tournaments held throughout the school year with as many as 500 participants. Most tournaments run on a Saturday from 8:30am-6:00pm. St. Luke's Debate Team consistently places or receives special honors.
St. Luke’s debate coach Beth Yavenditti shared, “St. Luke’s Debate continues to be a strong, supportive team. We are so proud of the debaters’ efforts and accomplishments.”
The excitement for St. Luke’s Debate Team continues as two of its participants—Chloe Kekedjian '18, Bilal Memon '18—have qualified for the World Individual Debating and Public Speaking Championship which takes place April 9-15 in South Africa.
