St. Luke’s School Plans August 24th Return to Campus

Just about every family is wondering: What will the 2020–21 school year look like? For St. Luke’s School, a secular private school for grades 5–12 in New Canaan, plans are underway for a return to the school’s beloved “Hilltop” campus.

In a letter to the St. Luke’s community, Head of School Mark Davis announced: “While we continue to prepare for all scenarios, I’m pleased to tell you that we intend to return to campus on August 24, so please plan accordingly. Of course, we will be guided by Connecticut’s reopening plan and prevailing public health conditions. And we will be prepared for a robust school experience on campus, online, and in a hybrid of the two.”

Like all schools, St. Luke’s had to pivot quickly to online learning when campus closed mid-March. St. Luke’s parents recently gave the faculty and administration high marks when 94 percent said they agreed or strongly agreed that the school had responded well to the crisis and the rapid move to St. Luke’s at Home.

A key to the school’s success was years of time and resources invested in faculty development and academic technology. Where many schools were forced to resort to just posting assignments online with few opportunities to connect with teachers, St. Luke’s was able to offer what Head of Upper School Liz Perry calls “real school.” Watch Perry explain how St. Luke’s approached distance learning.
