The St. Luke's Varsity Field Hockey team beat Wilbraham and Monson Academy

The St. Luke’s Varsity Field Hockey team put in a superb performance on Wednesday, October 2, to record a 2-0 win at Wilbraham & Monson Academy.
The Storm started the game brightly and dominated the first half with Sloan Barker ‘22 sparking the team’s attack with her high energy. St. Luke’s created a number of good opportunities. However, they couldn't find the breakthrough, despite sustained pressure on the W&M goal.
As they continued to push forward, the Storm was almost caught by W&M’s counter-attack, but the speed and stellar defense from Eloise Leclerc ‘21 averted the danger.
SLS continued to press throughout the second period, but had to wait until inside the last ten minutes to get on the scoreboard. Lucy Ehlers ‘21 found the back of the net after some good work by Kiley Galvin ‘23 to give the Storm a 1-0 lead.

The Storm added a second goal just minutes later when Abbey O’Meara ‘20 picked off a pass by W&M in the middle of the field, exploded with the ball, beat three Titan defenders, and placed the ball perfectly in the corner of the goal. This wonderful individual effort by Abbey sealed the team’s first win of the season.
Head Coach Seeley Fancher was thrilled for her players: “It was great to get a win and to see so many different players contribute to our success. It’s clear that we have strong individual skills, but we need to play connected and give each other confidence. We look forward to continuing this trend as we move forward.”
