​ St. Luke's French Program Receives Highest National Ranking

For a second consecutive time, the American Association of Teachers of French (AATF) awarded the AATF Exemplary French Program with Distinction ranking to the St. Luke’s French program. St. Luke’s is the only independent school in the country to receive this honor, which represents the highest distinction for a middle/high school French program.

Upper School World Language Department Chair Jon Shee said, “we were thrilled when we learned that the SLS French program earned the absolute highest possible ranking for a French program in the United States for a second time in a row!” St. Luke’s application for this prestigious program showcased the French program’s strong enrollment, high test scores, many awards, numerous letters of recommendation and a media gallery highlighting the engaging activities and events sponsored by the French program.

The teachers of the SLS French program are Jon Shee, Amber Berry, Evan Downey, Susan Sarrazin, Adja Dramé, and Beth Yavenditti (who also serves as the Director of Global Education). 39% of St. Luke’s students in grades 6-12 study French. Shee shared, “Data shows that by 2050, French is set to be the third most spoken language around the globe. Being able to speak this growing language is a great skill for our graduates.”

This award will be formally presented at the AATF national convention in St. Louis this summer.
