The St. Luke's Girls Soccer team beat FAA rival Greenwich Academy 1-0 on Saturday, October 28
The St. Luke's Girls Varsity Soccer team produced a tremendous performance to beat Greenwich Academy 1-0 on Saturday, October 28 in an intense FAA matchup.
The Storm has had a mixed season, coping with many setbacks, but was at its very best in the final league game of the season to defeat the first-placed team in the FAA.
The result solidified fourth place in the standings and means St. Luke's will have a home game in the quarter-finals of the FAA playoffs.

In a thrilling match that saw both teams create multiple opportunities, co-captain Elizabeth Laub ‘18 scored the game winner with just 4:43 remaining on the clock. Ali Gall ‘22 cut back onto her right foot and delivered a perfect cross for Laub to head home and start the wild celebrations from the home crowd.
The Storm defense of co-captain Thaise Sudano ‘18, Lea Panagiotidis ‘20, Jackie Thompson ‘20, Ali Gall ‘22 and goalkeeper Sammy Grayson ‘21 remained resolute in the closing minutes to inflict a first league defeat of the season on the Gators.

Saturday’s result is the first time GVS has defeated Greenwich Academy in regular season play since the 2013 season and head coach Dan Clarke was extremely proud of his players: “We put in an excellent performance against a very good team. We rode our luck a little at times but overall I think we deserved to get the three points. We frustrated them throughout and scored a great goal at the end. I think this proves we can compete with anyone on our day and I hope it gives the girls the confidence they need heading into the postseason.”
St. Luke’s plays Cheshire Academy on Wednesday, November 1 and Canterbury School on Saturday, November 4 before the FAA quarter-final on Monday, November 6 (at St. Luke’s).
