The St. Luke’s Girls Varsity Soccer team wrapped up a tremendous season, finishing as runners-up in the NEPSAC Class C Tournament.

GVS lost in the championship game 0-1 to Canterbury School on Sunday, November 17, at Deerfield Academy.

The Storm made the final after beating Berwick Academy 3-0 on Saturday, November 16, at St. Mark’s School in Southborough, Mass. A goal from Julia Lombardo ‘21 and two from Lea Panagiotidis ‘20 were enough to fend off a tough Bulldogs team.

St. Luke’s dominated the final contest against the Saints and had an early claim for a penalty waved away. SLS created a number of good opportunities before Canterbury scored the only goal of the game, just a few minutes before halftime.

The Storm regrouped at the interval and created a huge amount of pressure in the second half but couldn’t find the equalizing goal. Aidan Panian ‘23 did turn the ball into the net with 10 minutes remaining. Unfortunately, it was ruled out for offside.

Head Coach Dan Clarke was proud of his team: “We did everything we could to win the game, but sometimes you also need a little bit of luck. We didn’t have that today. We threw everything at them and played until the very last minute. The girls should be extremely proud of the way they played and what they have achieved this season. We controlled the game against a very good team but just couldn’t find the finish on this occasion.”
