St. Luke's Varsity Field Hockey Come From Behind To Stun KO

The St. Luke's Varsity Field Hockey team produced a stunning comeback to beat Kingswood Oxford on Wednesday, October 11

The St. Luke's Varsity Field Hockey team had a terrific come-from-behind victory against Kingswood Oxford School on Wednesday, October 11 scoring two goals in the final five minutes to give them a 3-2 win.

In a very tense opening half, Abby O’Meara ‘20 broke the deadlock with just 10 seconds remaining before the interval to give the Storm a 1-0 lead.

KO came out strong in the second period and pegged St. Luke’s back equalizing with 14:14 to play. The visitors quickly added a second goal with 10:41 remaining in the game to take a 2-1 advantage with the clock ticking down.

The Storm responded well and with 4:12 to go tied the game at 2-2. Kendall Boege ‘19 found Lucy Ehlers ‘21 with an excellent pass and the talented freshman made no mistake with a cool finish.

St. Luke’s completed the comeback with 2:12 left on the clock when Sophia DellaRusso ‘18 scored from an offensive corner after an assist by Hannah Haden ‘18.

The victory helped Varsity Field Hockey continue its unbeaten run at home this season and Head Coach Brinley Ehlers was proud of her team: “We played really good hockey and the team showed a lot of grit and heart. I was a little worried at 2-1 down but the kids never gave up. They continued their high level of play and completed a great comeback. Every single member of our team came to play today. I am so very proud of them."
