Stamford Junior Wins AAA Traffic Safety Poster Contest

A home-schooled junior from Stamford, who plans to be a veterinarian when she graduates from college, is the first place winner in AAA Northeast’s Annual Traffic Safety message Contest in Connecticut.

Clara Miller of 234 Cascade Road, Stamford, received a plaque and a $300 prize for her poster illustrating an aggressive driving theme, which was one of several themes high school students could have chosen to illustrate in the form of a poster of  as an audio visual public service announcement.

Using PowerPoint, Clara developed a simple poster headlined “Know the Difference” comparing an auto steering wheel to handheld video game controls. “Save Aggressive Driving and Speeding for the TV . . . Because Life is NOT a Video Game.”

Contest topics varied by grade level and included seatbelt and booster seat use, school bus and bike safety and distracted and impaired driving awareness. The videos and artwork of all finalists in AAA Northeast’s three-state territory are displayed on www.aaa.com/safetymatters.

More than 300 students in Fairfield, Litchfield and New Haven Counties participated in the Connecticut contest, which AAA conducts annually to generate a greater awareness of safe traffic practices among elementary and high school students.
